History
Scheh Elementary School opened in September of 1956 with twenty classrooms.
Many improvements have taken place since the opening of the school. The
1977 bond issue provided new heaters, roof repairs, and renovation of
the parking lot. The 1985 bond issue provided for additional classrooms,
a library and air-conditioning of all classrooms. A sprinkler system and
new roof have also been installed. The 1998 bond issue blessed the community
with a new gym and a new building with five large classrooms, a science
lab, a speech therapy classroom and restroom facilities for children and
adults.
The school is named in honor of Christian
A. Scheh, who was the first pharmacist in Harlandale and proprietor of
the Scheh Pharmacy on South Flores Street. Mr. Scheh was born in Akron,
Ohio in 1876. His family moved to Texas when he was only eight years old.
